Anyone have a toddler with eczema?
Jacob’s Beloved asked:
It started for my daughter at 6 months, and we got a steroid cream and Elidel. The Elidel never did seem to work, and the steroid cream is not meant for long-term use. I’ve done lots of research to find help for her, but nothing really seems to be a permanent solution. I’ve gotten some improvement with cocoa butter and Gold Bond Ultimate lotion. She can’t have anything with oatmeal in it because she is allergic. I also use Dove soap on her only. Any suggestions?

nothing, but making sure you put her lotion on her everynight before she goes to sleep. I use cetaphil. his eczema is still there, but it’s subsided somewhat. she’ll most likely grow out of it. don’t worry tons of kids have this.
MY daughter (2years) and myself both suffer from it.
Things like washing clothes only in warm water, has helped alot.
i wash bre-annas bedding every 2 to 3 days, in warm water,
we don’t use shampoo or conditioner or soaps, we use sorbelean cream or moisturiser to wash her hair and body with.
From a very young age we taught her to “rub” her itch, and even now if someone close to her is scratching, she will tell them to rub.
Also her bath is barely warm and she only stays in it for a few minutes, the water will make it itch.
My kids have eczema. I like the dove liquid soap. Aveno has a baby soap for eczema but you said she is allergic to oatmeal, so that is probably out. I find that after each bath, make sure you rub her entire body with lotion, whether she needs it or not. I like Eucerine. It is a little expensive, but worth it. If you need a prescription, my kids us Elocon. It is a steroid cream, but it works so well that I put it on a broken out spot once or twice and the patch is gone. I really don’t think I need to use it enough for it to be harmful. I only use it if the patch is really bad. In between Elocon treatments I use plenty of lotion. Also, try to limit the number of baths. In the winter, I try to only bathe my kids twice a week. The more they get wet, the more they break out.
My four year old son still get his. We had hard time getting rid of it during this summer. I been using Aveeno body wash. My doctor told me to use something thick and creamy soap. But you still can use Dove that fine. I am using Eurcin lotion it thick and creamy and helped with his dry skin. Also I changed his laundry soap. I use Tide for sensitive skin. It doesn’t have perfume or tye in it and same for the dryer sheets. It seems to help him out now.
both my kids have eczema and we have never been able to improve it. i wish i could help u. all doctors say its incurable but they dont seem to know what they are doing anyway.
My older son has extreme ezcema, have you tried something called Derma-Smooth? Its name may have been changed, but it is a prescription made by Hill. They also have a non-prescription version that I linked to below. This is really for the everyday treatment of it to help prevent the ezcema. (It is best used after bathtime.) Keep using the steroid creams for when it is really bad. Also, keep using dove soap. I personally use Eucerin’s Aquaphor throughout the day.
I’m sure the doctor has already told you about getting rid of dryer sheets and scented/ dyed laundry detergent and softener and making sure her clothes are 100% cotton. (I use All’s Free and Clear brand)
If not, those are things that my son’s dermatologist stressed to me.
If you are not seeing a dermatologist yet, then ask for a referral or make an appointment with one. The eczema should be monitored by a specialist. My son was actually admitted to the hospital because of his eczema, it is not something that should be taken lightly.
My little sister who’s 4 has had eczema since birth and for a long time it had seemed hopeless but what we had to do was to take her to a skin specialist (skin doctor) and they gave her a cream which is a mixture of different medicines…and it really works!!! So what I would suggest is that you take your daughter to a skin specialist and let them give her the right kind of ointment that she needs.
the answer is paw paw ointment!
you will be amazed at how good this stuff is! forget the hard medicated cream, go natural and buy paw paw ointment. TRUST ME IT WORKS!!
There’s a cream by Naturals ( i think ) with the Disney logo and it’s called Eczema cream. It works wonders. Steroid cream can be too strong for kids and should be used minimally. My daughter’s had eczema since she was little and this stuff works so well at getting rid of it and keeping it under control. Put in on especially after baths when the skin in absorbent.
