Does anyone have eczema and what do you use to treat it?
kbates1208 asked:
My son has had eczema pretty much since birth. I’ve tried all kinds of lotions and creams on him. I’m trying to find out who has dealt with this, and what you used etc. I have heard that Elidel works, but its real expensice with my insurance. So any type of lotion or body wash you know of will be helpful.

Hey,
I’ve had it since I was a baby. Certain years, and seasons it was worse. I’ve probably tried just about every eczema ointment, lotions, medicine out there..I recently tried Protopic, It burned for a few days, and I couldn’t bare the burning sensation to see results. I’ve been using aveeno for years and its worked quite fine for me. I haven’t gotten the eczema in the typical locations, behind my legs and inside of my elbow in about a year. Maybe I’ve outgrown it, if possible..finally after 19 years.
So try aveeno products, or goats milk soaps and lotions, body wash.
-.-’
I don’t know the age of your son, but I’ve heard that lying in a tanning bed helps, although there are some risks to doing so.
Ok, I know exactly what you are going through. My daughter has severe eczema. We have tried every kind of cream for her. She is going to be 1 yr. old next month and she still has really bad flare-ups, especially on her face. I asked her doctor about Elidel and she didn’t think that it would be ok for her to take it because of how old she is. She said because it alters the immune system, and my daughters too yound and her immune system is still developing. But my brothers daughter and one of my other nieces used Elidel and I’m not sure if they grew out of their eczema but it sure cleared up after that. They weren’t even a year old when they used it too. I sure did want to give it a try on my daughter because she is soo unhappy and it makes me feel so bad for her. It really breaks my heart to see people staring at her when we go places. But I just have to keep hope and I just had to read other peoples story about children with eczema. Well I hope that helped you a little anyway.
You should definitely talk to the doctor about some generic brands for your son. I was recently prescribed an antibiotic for the rash my skin cream could not get rid of. Just to let you know, I have also heard warning about Elidel and connections to cancer.
I find that Aveeno products work well for excema and dry skin. They make lotion, body wash, oatmeal baths, face soaps, shaving cream, sunscreen, etc. Aveeno also sells a hydrocortisone cream. You can get a really cheap at target.. and target makes the generic brand for only 3 bucks. If his exzema is mild enough that just might be the trick. Be sure you are using fragrance free everything! I’m talking about detergent, soap, and lotion. Make sure you give him warm, not hot baths and that he drinks lots of water.
