I need help with Eczema?

Poo P asked:

Okay, so im 14 and i have eczema right under my nose, slightly around my lips and a tad bit under my bottom lip. recently it has been flaring up, making me itch, leaving lines, redness, swelling, and little oozing and cuts. it really irritates me. i do have elidel and use it (prescribed by my doctor) and my mom got me cetephil, which doesn’t seem to do anything to help….

when it begins to get itchyi go to the batroom and wash my lip area with soap and cold water, and the itching stops, but it turns so red!! so i pat with a towel and apply my elidel cream but my lip/mouth area dries out pretty fast!

now i read a couple articles but they don’t make any sense! i read in one about using ‘body butter’ from the body shop or bath and body or watever products from them. if they really work, which one is better? and if not or if u have any other solutions, please help me out! im going insanee

First, stop using soap on it. Soap will dry out eczema faster than anything. Try a soap free cleanser like Moisturel (drug store). My sons both have it and we use CereVe cream and cleanser, which works well for them. We avoid anything with fragrance in it and make sure you use lotion numerous times a day - carry it with you and reapply often. My sons have been prescribed nearly every lotion and cream available and haven’t had any great result with any of them. You might want to try adding a daily allergy medicine like Claritin or Zyrtec (both are over the counter now). The generic meds work just as well as the name brand. If I can help answer any questions you can email me. My oldest son is almost 16 and was diagnosed as a baby (he had it over his entire body) so I’ve been dealing with eczema for a long time.
